MovedTo Newbury in 2021

We’re now into our sixth year of bringing together the people of Newbury, although the last year and a half hasn’t been plain sailing for anyone.

With a forced 18 month break in our ever-popular socials thanks to the pandemic, MovedTo Newbury socials are finally back on the agenda. And we can’t wait. The first, Casual Thursday on the 5th August 2021, will be the first time a social has been held since December 2019. What a different world it was then.

MovedTo socials comprise of a broad selection of people who are keen to meet others, forge new friendships, and make the most of their time living in the town.

You don’t even have to have recently moved to the area to come along; many of those who attend have been here for a number of years, some even grew up here. And that’s part of what makes us the number one social group in Newbury.

After the year that everyone has endured, we think it’s even more important than ever to bring regular socials to the town as we move towards post-pandemic life. We hope as many people as possible will join us.

If you’ve not been to a MovedTo social before, here are some frequently asked questions:

Who is MovedTo for?

Our social events are for everyone, and we mean everyone. Our core demographic is people between the ages of 25 and 40 with 55% women and 45% men, but people of all ages attend our socials. Regardless of your age, background, or hobbies, everyone is welcome.

What does it cost?

Nothing, free, nada, zilch, or any other word you can find to describe it. We are absolutely, entirely, and utterly free for you to utilise. Come along to any of our socials and all it will cost you is your time and the cost of any activity (cinema, bowling, drinks, etc.).

How long do I need to stay for?

As long as you feel comfortable with. We host our regular socials at a pub because it’s a very relaxed and easy going environment. We hope it provides you with the flexibility to arrive and leave as you please. We know it can feel daunting the first time you come along, so feel free to drop in for five minutes or five hours, the choice is yours.

What if I’m nervous / anxious / scared?

Don’t worry, all of us in this group have been in the exact same position and we want to make it as easy and comfortable for you as possible. Please get in touch if there is anything we can do to help; we are happy to answer any questions you may have. Bring a friend along with you too, the more the merrier. We are not a closed group and we would be absolutely delighted to meet you and help you make some new friends in the local area.

Testimonials

Basically every good friend I have in Newbury I met through MovedTo. Last year I made over 80 new friends from socials alone! I came along to my first social alone in December 2015 – I was meant to be going with my housemate, but she had to cancel just before. I decided to go anyway, I didn’t know anybody, but everyone was really friendly and I quickly felt at ease. I’d then broken the ice and coming along to the next social was exciting and much easier. ” Fiona

“I’ve had so much fun in the past year and it’s mainly thanks to joining MovedTo. I went to my first social in March and I’ve never looked back! I’d been meaning to go along for a while after noticing their events popping up on my newsfeed, and I felt so welcome straightaway. Since then, I’ve been to almost every social, made so many wonderful new friends, and I honestly don’t know what I’d do without this fantastic group in my life.”  Melissa

I came along to MovedTo to meet a new group of people & mix up my social life. Turned up to one of the drinks socials as a last minute decision, a year or so later I now have made some great new friends. Been to some great events – who knew driving around the local countryside areas looking for clues in a car treasure hunt could be such good fun! Being big kids at the New Forest Waterpark was another highlight.”  James

I “MovedTo” Newbury 23 years ago, so am not exactly a newbie to the area, however after university I found all of my friends were moving away and my social life took a hit. MovedTo has given me a new lease of life in Newbury, with a fantastic new group of friends and opportunities I hadn’t even realised were out there. It’s also really helped me address social anxiety issues that had started affecting me. MovedTo is perfect not just for people new to the area but anybody wanting to expand their social life and get more out of the area we live in. ” Laura

I discovered MovedTo after moving to Newbury last year to be closer to work. As I knew no one already living in Newbury I went to my first MovedTo Newbie social on my own and found the group couldn’t be more welcoming. I have made some great friends since being here and that is solely due to MovedTo. There is a wide variety of events on offer, so there is something for everyone and there is always the opportunity to put forward your own event ideas I would highly recommend MovedTo for anyone either new to Newbury or just looking for something new to do.”  Debbie
