Who we are, what we do, and how you can get involved

I’m Jonny from MovedTo and I wanted to reach out to those of you in Newbury and the surrounding areas to share a little bit about us, what we do, and how you can get involved. I will give you a little about me, MovedTo, whats happening in 2017, some FAQs, as well as some testimonials at the bottom. Check out our latest Newbury social events here for those wanting to get involved.

About Me

Jonny from MovedTo

Just under two years ago I moved to Newbury to settle down with my girlfriend; it wasn’t my first time moving so I knew there would be months of learning the area and meeting new people ahead, but I was surprised at how little support there was to meet new people. I also struggled to find activities to do and local information, so MovedTo was born.

MovedTo Events and Socials

Over the past year or so we have created a variety of fantastic events in and around the Newbury area. We have hosted bowling evenings, coffee mornings, given local DJs the opportunity to perform at nightclubs, been camping and go karting, visited waterparks, been on a car treasure hunt, hosted games and picnics in the park during the summer, taken part in pub quizzes, the list really does go on and on! Check out some of the photos from the events here

We try and host a social every week and mix things up a little. We have a broad collection of people who make up our social group and that’s part of what makes us the number one social group in Newbury. There is always more we can be doing and we want to invite as many of you as we can along to our events.

Having moved all over the world, sometimes more than once a year, I know exactly what it’s like to come to a new place. Equally, I know the feeling of always going out with the same people from work; sometimes you just want a change. That’s why MovedTo is for you. It’s for everyone, so come along and you may be surprised at just how much you enjoy it.

MovedTo in 2017

In 2017 we really would like to meet as many of you as possible, our aim is to make it easy to come along for the first time. We know you may feel anxious, nervous, possibly even scared; we know this because we did too. Everyone at our socials had a first time, just like you. We have been delighted to see friendships and relationships form over the past year or so and want you to be a part of it too. We really are a friendly group so you won’t be sat alone or feeling out of place. We also know you won’t be able to make it to every event, so please feel free to dip in and out of whichever events take your fancy, no pressure.

Here’s the part where I get really honest with you all – we have over 1,000 unique members that interact with us on a regular basis, we can see you out there liking our posts, reading our blogs, interacting with our events. We want to know how we can better bring the community together at socials. We have created a variety of events over the last year or so and know that not all will be suitable for you, and that’s fine. We know not all of you will relate to a night out in a club, which is why we have also created summer walks, book club nights, and parent coffee mornings. These haven’t always been attended as well as we might have hoped, so please let us know what we can do to help, we’re here, listening, and ready to support where we can. I will try and answer a few frequently asked questions below.

Who is MovedTo for?

MovedTo Newbury social events are for everyone, and we mean everyone. Our core online demographic is people between the ages of 25 and 40 with 55% women and 45% men, but our ages range from 18 to 55. We are always trying to create events relevant to your needs and if you have an idea then please do not hesitate to get in touch. We have a great mixture of people new to the area, those who have been here for a few years, or here their entire lives. It doesn’t matter, you are all welcome.

Nothing, free, nada, zilch, or any other word you can find to describe it. We are absolutely, entirely, and utterly free for you to join and use. Come along to any of our socials and all it will cost you is your time and the cost of any activity (cinema, bowling, meal, etc.).

How long do I need to stay for?

As long as you feel comfortable with. We host our weekly social at a pub because it’s a very relaxed and easy going environment. We hope it provides you with the flexibility to arrive and leave as you please. We know it can feel daunting the first time you come along, so feel free to drop in for five minutes or five hours, the choice is yours.

But I am nervous / anxious / scared

Don’t worry, like we said all of us in this group have been in the exact same position and we want to make it as easy and comfortable for you as possible. Please get in touch if there is anything we can do to help; we are happy to meet you beforehand, or answer any questions you may have. Bring a friend along with you too, the more the merrier. We are not a closed group and would be absolutely delighted to meet you and help you make some new friends in the local area. In fact we regularly host Newbie Nights specifically for those new to our socials.

What to do next

Get in touch, let us know any ideas you have or ways we can support you. Come along to any Nebwury social events and say hello, meet some new people, make some new friends, have some good times. We cannot wait to meet you, so see you soon!

Basically every good friend I have in Newbury I met through MovedTo. Last year I made over 80 new friends from socials alone! I came along to my first social alone in December 2015 – I was meant to be going with my housemate, but she had to cancel just before. I decided to go anyway, I didn’t know anybody, but everyone was really friendly and I quickly felt at ease. I’d then broken the ice and coming along to the next social was exciting and much easier. ” Fiona, age 27

“I’ve had so much fun in the past year and it’s mainly thanks to joining MovedTo. I went to my first social in March and I’ve never looked back! I’d been meaning to go along for a while after noticing their events popping up on my newsfeed, and I felt so welcome straightaway. Since then, I’ve been to almost every social, made so many wonderful new friends, and I honestly don’t know what I’d do without this fantastic group in my life. The summer of 2016 is one I’ll always remember, filled with epic days out in the sunshine and evenings that finished when the sun came up. I’m so looking forward to meeting even more new people in 2017 and doing lots more new activities with MovedTo!”  Melissa, age 35

I came along to MovedTo to meet a new group of people & mix up my social life. Turned up to one of the drinks socials as a last minute decision, a year or so later I now have made some great new friends. Been to some great events – who knew driving around the local countryside areas looking for clues in a car treasure hunt could be such good fun! Being big kids at the New Forest Waterpark was another highlight.”  James, age 29

I “MovedTo” Newbury 23 years ago, so am not exactly a newbie to the area, however after university I found all of my friends were moving away and my social life took a hit. MovedTo has given me a new lease of life in Newbury, with a fantastic new group of friends and opportunities I hadn’t even realised were out there. It’s also really helped me address social anxiety issues that had started affecting me. MovedTo is perfect not just for people new to the area but anybody wanting to expand their social life and get more out of the area we live in. ” Laura, age 26

I discovered MovedTo after moving to Newbury last year to be closer to work. As I knew no one already living in Newbury I went to my first MovedTo Newbie social on my own and found the group couldn’t be more welcoming. I have made some great friends since being here and that is solely due to MovedTo. There is a wide variety of events on offer, so there is something for everyone and there is always the opportunity to put forward your own event ideas I would highly recommend MovedTo for anyone either new to Newbury or just looking for something new to do.”  Debbie, age 31
